Have you ever observed the world around you? The flowing of current, sunrise, sunset, rain, the rainbow after rain, running of cycle, revolution of planets around sun, and many natural phenomenon which occurs daily in our life. Have you ever thought what is behind their happening? Today we are going to know about the subject which study these phenomenon.

The study of these natural phenomenon comes under a beautiful branch of science named physics. Let us try to know more about this subject.

What is physics?

The word physics is derived from a Greek word which means “nature”. Hence, physics is the branch of science that deals with the study of nature or natural phenomenon. Physics plays a major and important role in understanding the world better.

Characteristics of physics:

This subject is based upon observations, calculation and experimental results. In this we study mainly about matter and energy. The laws of physics are universal i.e., are applicable in whole universe. Physics is never static i.e., a result probably may not be correct for always, breaking of laws and creation of new is common in this.

Branches of physics:

1. Classical mechanics
2. Thermodynamics and statistical mechanics
3. Optics
4. Quantum mechanics
5. Nuclear physics

and many sub branches of given above.
Let us now try to know a bit about the above branches of physics.

Classical mechanics:

This branch of physics deals with the study of motion of object after acting a force or when force in equilibrium on object. Sir Isaac Newton is called as the father of classical mechanics as his work laid to the foundation of classical mechanics.

Thermodynamics and statistical mechanics:

As named thermodynamics, this branch deals with the thermal energy of macroscopic system. Statistical mechanics is basically the study of molecular particles and their properties.
Sadi Carnot is the father of thermodynamics and Josiah Willard Gibbs is founder of statistical mechanics.

Optics:

In this branch of physics scientists deals with the light phenomenon and how the light interacts with matter is studied under the optical physics.
Ibn-al-Haytham is known as the father of optical physics.

Quantum physics:

This is the branch of physics that deals with the study of microscopic particles like atom, nucleus, electron, quarks etc. This physics tells about how the universe works in the atomic level. This is the super interesting branch of physics tells about the fundamental universe.
Max Planck and Niels Bohr are the founder or called as the fathers of quantum physics.

Nuclear physics:

The study of atomic nucleus kept under the branch of nuclear physics. Nucleus have neutron and proton so the study of how they interact and how nuclear reactions occurs is studied under nuclear physics.
Sir Ernest Rutherford is the father of nuclear physics.

Scientists that contributed in physics:

1. Albert Einstein
2. Isaac Newton
3. Max Planck
4. Galileo Galilei
5. Michael Faraday
6. James Clark Maxwell
7. Ernest Rutherford
8. Richard Feynman
9. Niels Bohr
10. Marie Curie

and other thousands of scientists contributed a lot in developing this branch of science.
